Business classes just got better

The school week flew by in a blur of marketing and Italian, and somehow, I find that I am genuinely interested in ALL of my subject material (shocking!). There are so many differences between the Italian and the American classroom, but we'll leave them for later.

I did want to note, however, one particularly interesting and rather large difference, and it has less to do with the academic system than simple culture.

We were introducing ourselves in my Global Business & Society classes, and one girl apologized for being a bit loopy as she had just come from her “Wine of Italy” class. The teacher asked how much she drank and the girl admitted to having five or six glasses of wine and was maybe quite a bit drunk.

“Who is your teacher?” asks my professor, laughing. “I will call him and tell him to stop getting my students drunk before class!” she teases playfully.

And just like that, she moves on to the next student, laughing off what would result in immediate suspension or expulsion in America. The student wouldn't have time to slur an apology before landing in an administrator's office.

Maybe this girl is on to something. Quite frankly, having a nice buzz might be exactly what I need to get through the next two and a half hour lecture on international monetary systems. Just a thought.
